Project Brief: Design and build 50 large tree planters for University City District’s UCity Square with help from Tiny WPA’s Building Heros.
Design
As design/fabrication lead, I developed a planter that met budget, would last through two years of use, could be pre-fabricated in parts, and shipped to the site for full assembly by a team with widely varying fabrication experience.
Fabrication
Once the design was finalized, a system needed to be developed to efficiently fabricate the large volume of planters. Coordinating workers’ schedules was the hardest aspect of the project. By having clear cut-sheets, diagrams, and cutting jigs, I was able to optimize the time the build team spent in the workshop.
Working with Tiny WPA’s Building Heros was an awesome experience. A lot of hard work by an incredible group of young adults went into making this project happen.
Awesome Stuff!
